NIU Hockey to Call Fox Valley Ice Arena Home

8/1/2012 – Dekalb, IL- Northern Illinois University Hockey is excited to call Fox Valley Ice Arena, in Geneva Illinois, home forthe 2012-2013 season. The arena will host all practices and games for both NIU teams along with the DII team having their own private locker room.

“This is a good fit because Fox Valley is able to accommodate our needs above and beyond other rinks. The closeness to campus along with excellent game slots and a locker room for the DII team, adds a huge value to the NIU Hockey program. We hope to become a huge part of the Fox Valley Ice Arena and Geneva area community” said Ian Kalanges, General Manager of NIU Hockey.

The facility features two ice rinks a 200' x 100' International size rink and a 200' x 85' regulation NHL size rink which also features 3000 seats surrounding the ice. Fox Valley Ice Arena also features a full service pro-shopand an elite level 14,000 square foot fitness center on the second floor, and Chelios’ Pub and Grill adjacent to the rink. The facility was built in 1997. It is the former home of the Chicago Hitmen and Chicago Freeze both of the North American Hockey League and the Chicago Bluesmen of Roller Hockey International.

The management at Fox Valley Ice Arena is also very excited to have the Huskies call the rink home for the next three years. Managing director, Paul O'Dacre, expressed much excitement about the deal.

“I think it’s great for the building, so many NIU students are from the Chicagoland area. It’s the closest rink to campus, we can’t wait to welcome the Huskies with open arms and to have the place packed with screaming NIU fans”.

The arena is located at 1996 S. Kirk Rd in Geneva about a mile south of the intersection IL-38 and Kirk road and just four miles north of the US-88.  

The home opener at Fox Valley kicks off Friday September 28 as the Division II team will take on Robert Morris University.
