On Friday night the Huskies played three great periods of hockey winning 4-1 over the Billikens. The Huskies pounded out 29 shots on goal scoring four goals on Billikens’ goalkeeper Jason Magusiat. Highlights on the night came from Freshman forward Bobby DiStefano who scored a hat-trick in the game, along with Matt Kieffer who scored the other goal. Mike Strumberger added 2 assits and Will Hildebrandt added an assist. Senior OMIS major, Tim Benham, saved 41 of 42 shots on him for the win in net.
On Saturday, the Huskies who still find themselves in a chase for the last playoff spot knew the Billikens were going to be much more aggressiveness. That was the case as every goal in the game was one or the other scoring back and forth. Going into the third period the Huskies were tied with the Billikens 2-2. The Huskies would take the lead on a Mike Sible shorthanded goal. The Billikens with 8 minutes left were able to tie it. Regulation would end, but 3 minutes into the overtime the Billikens’ would score and win the game. Huskies goals would come from Peter Alfano, Bobby DiStefano, and Mike Sible. In net was Senior goaltender, Tim Benham who started on Friday night also, stopping 33 of 37 shots.
The Huskies now have four games left on the regular season. Two non-conference games this upcoming weekend against Bradley University, and then their last two MACHA league games against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. The Huskies still have a playoff chance, but need help from other teams and must win their last two league games.
Sophmore forward, Mike Sible said, “The power-play all weekend hurt us. We should have never been in certain situations on Saturday being so close. We should have beat them by 2 or 3 goals.”
Peter Alfano said, “I think this was our best overall play as a team verse a conference opponent all season. We definetley had their number, just wish we had could have pulled it out on Saturday.
