4/24/17 – DeKalb, IL | Forward Tommy Rhyan has committed to Northern Illinois University for the fall of 2017 and to NIU Hockey for the 2017-18 season.

“[NIU] is the best fit for me,” the Arlington Heights, IL native said about choosing the university.

Rhyan models his game after the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks.

“I like to think that I am more of a player that likes to put pressure on the opposition,” the 20-year-old said. “I also like to think that I still have some skill in my shooting and stickhandling ability. I try to model myself after Jonathan Toews.”

The 5’8”, 170 lbs. forward’s previous ACHA team was with the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. For Rhyan, playing college hockey has been his greatest accomplishment in the sport thus far in his career.

The mass communications/media studies major is hoping to do two main things with NIU Hockey in the future.

“[I’m hoping] to meet a bunch of people and win,” Rhyan said.
