6/29/17 – DeKalb, IL | Center Michael Pelagio has committed to Northern Illinois University for the fall of 2017 and to NIU Hockey for the 2017-18 season.
The St. Charles, IL native played for the Cyclones midget major team last season.
“[I’m a] very passionate, hardworking and aggressive [player],” the business major said; he also models his game after Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews.
Pelagio chose to attend school at NIU for multiple reasons.
“[I] loved the campus and had a great feeling about the hockey program,” the 18-year-old said. “It is also close to home.”
The 5’8”, 150 lbs. center is proud of the fact that he can play anywhere on the ice that coaches need him to as he continues to develop his game.
“[My greatest accomplishments in hockey thus far are] getting better and better every year [and] also playing offense and defense when coaches need me to,” Pelagio said.
Pelagio hopes to continue to develop as a person on and off the ice during his time with NIU Hockey.
“[I hope to] grow as a player and become a better person,” Pelagio said.
