NIU Drops 2 to SIU-Edwardsville in MACHA Gold play

The NIU Hockey team had its second round of league games this past weekend, vs. Southern Illinois Edwardsville.  Friday night’s game started off a little sluggish for the Huskies as they were down 4-0 halfway through the second period.  The newly reformed green line of Mike Sible, Peter Alfano, and Chris Bednarek got the offense going as they poured in three goals all by Mike SIble, for his first hat-trick of the season, with Alfano and Bednarek each receiving three assists.  The Huskies also tied the game 4-4 before going into the third period with a goal by sophomore Bobby DiStefano.  Although the Huskies did come back, it was not enough as the Cougars from SIU-E were able to pump in two goals in the third period, and take the win 6-4 over the Huskies.  Kyle Olbright made his first collegiate start saving 61 of the 67 shots he faces.  It was quite an offensive showdown in the game as the Huskies themselves had 48 shots on goal.
Saturdays game was a total different story from Friday.  Olbright did make his second consecutive start but it did not pan out so well.  The Huskies fell to the Cougars 13-3 in a game that showed no want by the Huskies players.  One bright spot in the game was Huskies junior Drew Clark, who netted all three goals for NIU.
The Huskies will now head out to St.Louis this weekend as they will play the St.Louis University Billikens Friday night at 8pm and Saturday at 1:30pm.
