11/19/2012 – Dekalb, IL – The D3 Huskies swept the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Cougars in East Alton Illinois to notch their first two victories of the year. Brian Staffeldt scored the game winner with an assist from Mike Holum to clinch the Huskies first victory of the season 4-3 on Friday. Also in on the scoring were Matt Moore with a pair of goals, Mike Holum with 2 points and Nick Madonia and Brian Kostecka with an assist each.

On Saturday, the Huskies came out firing and didn’t let of the gas and kept the momentum from Friday and defeated the Cougars 5-2 with four different Huskies lighting the lamp. Brian Kostecka, Brian Staffeldt, and JC Weem each had a goal while Matt Moore put in two with one of them being the eventual game winner.

After talking with Huskies Assistant Captain, JC Weems, a few weeks ago, he echoed the sentiments of the team in feeling a sense of confidence of going down to East Alton and wanting to pick up these two wins. He said the team was gelling and finally playing as a team. Needless to say, NIU took a big step against SIU-E and confidence is one of the most dangerous weapons a team can have.

You can catch the D3 Huskies locally this coming weekend in Evanston at The Robert Crown Ice Center at 1701 Main Street, Evanston, IL 60202 as they take on the Northwestern University Wildcats at 10:30 pm Friday and 8:00 pm on Saturday. Please visit for all details.
