NIU D3 Drops Games to Lewis University

11/5/2012 – Dekalb, IL – The D3 team didn’t find themselves as lucky this past weekend hosting the Lewis University Flyers at the Fox Valley Ice Arena. The puck dropped later than usual at 9:20pm Friday due to the annual Nike Bauer Tournament running through the weekend. The game was close through the first twenty minutes with goals from JC Weems, Patrick Mullaghy and Matt Swastek. Cheered on by a raucous crowd filled with students, who were bused in from DeKalb, the Huskies dictated the tempo early on. However, costly penalties and general chippiness from both sides led to 7 unanswered goals by the Flyers culminating in a 10-4 Lewis University victory.  After the game NIU team captain Nick Madonia stated, “As soon as we started taking penalties it was over. We gave up three “5 on 3” goals and once we started getting into those “5 on 3” situations it throws off our entire rhythm”. Saturday wasn’t much better for the Huskies as they dropped the game 13-2. Huskies got goals out of new forward Chris Adam and Brian Staffeldt. The Huskies will take part this coming weekend in the Robert Morris University Showcase with games against Robert Morris University Eagles White (Friday) and Robert Morris University Eagles Springfield (Saturday).
