1/15/2013 – Dekalb, IL – It was a successful weekend for the D2 Huskies as the 6th ranked Missouri State Ice Bears came to Geneva to take on the 7th ranked Huskies.

The D2 team took to the ice at 7:40pm Friday night to begin what would become an epic affair against the Ice Bears. MSU opened the scoring half way through a penalty fueled 1st period with a goal from Blake Ryan. The Huskies then struck back with goals from Rob Bock, and then two from Mike Hansen to make it 3-2 at the end of two periods. Marc Kirksey would tie it up for the Ice Bears early on in the 3rd period and that’s the way the score would stay until time expired and the five minute overtime bore no fruit for either team. They then began an amazing eight round shootout in which both goaltenders, Alex Hare for NIU and Justin Davis for MSU, stopped literally everything in their path. That was until Carson MacInnis, son of NHL Hall of Famer Al MacInnis, took his place on the center ice dot, skated towards Hare and deaked him perfectly for the only score of the shootout and a Missouri State victory.

Any momentum that the Ice Bears gained due to that thrilling victory was not evident on Saturday as the Huskies dominated the Ice Bears. Justin Rucinski opened the scoring at 7:50 of the first with help from Shawn Budz and Ryan Mcsweeney. In the second period the Huskies broke the game wide open as Mike Hansen scored his third goal of the weekend, shorthanded at 4:06. Shawn Budz made it 3-0 at 13:47 and captain Nick Remley at 17:01 had the Huskies riding high with a 4-0 lead. Nick Leon tallied on the power play to start the third period and then again with 3:29 left in regulation to help ice the 6-1 victory.

The Huskies will travel next weekend to Jefferson City, Missouri to take on the University of Missouri Tigers at the Washington Park Ice Arena with a 7:30pm Saturday night start time followed by a 11:30am start on Sunday. The games LIVE broadcast will be on
