Over the winter break, while many students were on a break from work, the NIU Hockey team was hard at work as they took on two top ten regionally ranked teams. They played RMC-Chicago the weekend of December 14th and 15th. They would lost handidly on Friday night 9 to 2. As it has been the same all season, the team came out more prepared and fired up on Saturday night as the team led most of the game just before RMC was able to tie it up in the last minute. In overtime RMC would be able to put in the game winner, and win 5-4.
This past weekend NIU would take on its hardest competition all season, the #4 regionally ranked DePaul Blue Demons. Although a great week of practice led up to the weekend games NIU was outplayed in all aspects of the game, and would lost 8-2 and 7-2 respectivley. Bright spots on the weekend even though they gave up 15 goals total was the goaltending by Tim Benham and Brandon Colello. Benham stopped 29 on 37 shots on Friday, and Colello stopped 28 on 35 shots Saturday.
This weekend the NIU Hockey team travels to Columbia, Missouir to take on MACHA foe the University of Missouri Tigers.
