6/4/2018 – DeKalb, IL | Defenseman Zack Jacobi has committed to Northern Illinois University for the fall of 2018 and to NIU Hockey for the 2018-2019 season.
Jacobi previously played for the Waubonsie Valley High School Warriors and chose to attend NIU for a few reasons.
“I was very impressed by NIU’s commitment to its engineering school and believe that I will be able to learn a lot there,” the electrical engineering major said. “My older sister attended NIU, so I had a chance to learn about the school and liked what it offers its students academically and personally.”
The 5’10”, 130 lbs. blueliner models his game after Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith.
“I would say that I model my playing style after Duncan Keith because I rely mostly on puck control, positioning and speed rather than physical contact,” Aurora, IL native said. “I think my most important role as a defenseman is to prevent opposing players’ scoring opportunities and to assist my team’s offense, and those are the things I think Duncan Keith emphasizes.”
The 17-year-old hopes to continue to develop his game during his first season with the Huskies.
“I am looking for a chance to continue to develop as a player, to learn and to expand on my skills,” Jacobi said.
