5/9/2018 – DeKalb, IL | Defenseman Dominic Internicola has committed to Northern Illinois University for the fall of 2018 and to NIU Hockey for the 2018-2019 season.
Internicola previously played for Lane Tech High School and chose NIU for a few reasons.
“I heard that they had a really good nursing program,” the 18-year-old said. “And I found out that they had hockey here. I was really interested in joining the hockey team. It was really good because my last experience with a hockey team felt like family. [Hopefully] I can find a new family in this hockey team.”
The 5’9”, 170 lbs. defenseman is a team-oriented and self-motivated player who models his game after San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns.
Some characteristics that the Chicago native prides himself on are being able to work hard and being able to persevere.
“[I go] out there and try my hardest to accomplish my goals,” Internicola said. “Even if I fail, I don’t bring myself down. I pick myself up and say, ‘You’ll get it next time. You’ll do better.’”
Internicola hopes to strengthen himself on and off the ice during his first season with the Huskies.
“I hope to build a bigger character in myself, come together with one team and build up strengths and weaknesses,” Internicola said.
