Huskies Swept Away By Hawkeyes

The second game was expected to be a stronger showing from NIU, as they did against Illinois State the weekend before.  NIU did step up to the challenge as they only went down 1-0 after the first period.  Despite the strong play, the Hawkeyes did add on more goals and shutout the Huskies 6-0 for the victory.  Junior Defenseman, Dave Brienzo said, “In the first six games of the season we seemed to be a slow starting team, finishing out the second and third period really strong.  This weekend it was the total opposite.  There is nothing we can do about it now other than just get back to practice, and get ready for next weekend.”

Goal Scorers in game 1: Mike Strumberger and Mike Sible.

The team now travels to Madison on this homecoming weekend here at NIU, to play the University of Wisconsin – Madison, both game times at 7:30 on Friday and Saturday night.
