A resident of Bartlett Illinois, Rinaldo has been involved with various levels of hockey around the Chicagoland area the past 13 years. Before he decided to take on coaching, Rinaldo has an impressive hockey playing resume’ which includes being recruited to play NCAA DIII hockey for Lake Forest College from 1996 till 1999.
Recently, Rinaldo has been successful winning two State Championships with Deerfield High School in 2008 and 2011, while serving as their hockey director and varsity head coach.
When asked what he thought about making the jump to the college level of coaching he responded with, “Ever since I started coaching I always had the hopes to become a college hockey coach. I believe the college hockey experience is a unique and special experience for both the players and the coaches.” Rinaldo thinks that the transition phase into the NIU Hockey organization will be an easy one. “We have a great group of players and staff members in place that will make my transition pretty smooth.”
Rinaldo talks about his overall coaching philosophy of the game of hockey. “I always stress a "team first" mentality. Every player on the team plays a very important role in the overall success of the team. I expect every player to buy in to the systems that are installed and always put forth 100% effort.”
NIU looks to continue its rise as one of the top teams in the Central ACHA DII region with Rinaldo behind the bench. Rinaldo understands what it’s going to take to get there. “It's just a matter of creating the right culture by having the players understand their roles and maintaining a high level of hard work and discipline from start to finish. I think the team has great potential and I look forward to having a positive influence on the players and the overall program.”
