Huskies Complete Coaching Staff for Upcoming Season

5/21/2013 – Dekalb, IL – While it may be the offseason for the Huskies, the staff is already busy preparing for the upcoming fall season. After the offseason departure of Assistant Coach, David Goldsmith, the DII Huskies began to fill the void by announcing the hiring of former Huskie Captain, Mike Reporto. In addition to Coach Chuck Rinaldo and Coach Mike Reporto, Alex Alessi will be moving from the DIII staff last season, up to the DII team as an assistant for the upcoming season. Coach Kenny Schatz will also be returning as the goaltending coach for both the DII and DIII teams. John Lyne and Pat Giannini will be returning as head coach and assistant coach, respectively, for the DIII team.

Today the Huskies are happy to announce the hiring of former DIII captain, Nick Madonia, as an assistant coach with the DIII team. Nick’s years of playing experience between Robert Morris University and NIU, along with his great knowledge of the game, make him a perfect fit to the staff. “We are happy to have him aboard and I know he will be great at helping us develop players at the next level”, said Coach Lyne, “Madonia has been a great leader for the team in the past and I’m excited to have him join our staff and continue with the NIU Hockey family.”

“It is great to now have three former Huskies captains on staff with Madonia, Reporto, and Giannini”, said NIU Hockey GM Ian Kalanges. “This just tells you a lot about who these guys are and their leadership abilities as a result of them wanting to stay involved with the program as coaches now that their playing days are complete. I am looking forward to the season with high expectations for both teams now that a solid coaching leadership is in place”.
