The Northern Illinois University Huskies Hockey Club is proud to present its 2006-2007 team roster. The roster consists of sixteen forwards, nine defensemen, and two goaltenders for a total of a twenty-seven man roster.
This years turnout for the tryouts saw and increase in player attendance. Robert Martinez, Club President says, “I did see an increase in attendance this season from last. At last years tryouts we only had about 30 players and in previous years it was about the same. [This year] we had 47 players sign up for tryouts.”
The increase in attendance at the tryouts has allowed the Huskies to pick from a large pool of rookie talent. There are plenty of new young faces appearing on the Huskies team this year with six new players at forward, six at defenses, and two goaltenders. This team will have a strong mix of veteran and rookie players for the new season. “We also picked up several young guns who really impress me and I feel that combining these talented rookies with the gritty veterans will make for a very exciting season. I feel very optimistic about this years team. We have some great veterans on this team who will lead the way and take the rookies under their wing to show them what they need to know to be successful in the ACHA and MACHA,” Martinez said.
The new Huskies get their first chance to show off their new talent at the season opener on Friday, September 22nd against Northern Michigan University. An opener which the Huskies lost last year 2-3.
