5/15/18 – DeKalb, IL | Defenseman Brandon Howe has committed to Northern Illinois University for the fall of 2018 and to NIU Hockey for the 2018-2019 season.
Howe previously played for the Romeoville Rebels Midget A team and chose to attend NIU for multiple reasons.
“It was one of the first schools I looked into and it was convenient considering it’s relatively close to home,” the Plainfield, IL native said. “I also knew I wanted to play hockey in college and learning about NIU’s hockey program was really beneficial.”
The 6’4”, 210 lbs. blueliner doesn’t necessarily have an NHL player he models his game after, but he considers himself to be a two-way defenseman.
“I like to play defensively strong while still providing offensive opportunities,” the 18-year-old said.
Howe takes pride in the fact that his game has developed in a short period of time.
“I struggled early due to the fact that I started at an older age than most people,” Howe said. “I am proud of how far I have come and [I’m] excited to grow further.
Howe hopes to continue to progress as a player during his first season with the Huskies.
“[I want] to further improve my skills and continue to learn the game and gain experience,” Howe said. “I also plan on doing my best and hopefully play at the highest level I can.”
