5/14/2018 – DeKalb, IL | Forward Tyler Gut has committed to Northern Illinois University for the fall of 2018 and to NIU Hockey for the 2018-2019 season.

Gut previously played for the Chicago Blues Midget U18 AA team and chose NIU for a few reasons.

“I have a couple friends that are going there that I played with on the Blues before,” the 18-year-old said. “It will be a little more comfortable going in there. They also have a great [Kinesiology] program and hockey team.”

The 5’8”, 140 lbs. forward is a versatile, hardworking player who models his game after Montreal Canadiens forward Andrew Shaw.

“He’s little, but he’s feisty. So, that’s who I try to play like,” the Saint John, IN native said.

So far in his career, Gut has had a lot of fun playing hockey and making many good friends. He hopes to continue that during his first season with the Huskies.

“[I want to] play competitive hockey for as long as I can and through college so I can have motivation to get good grades and play well,” Gut said.
