DIII Huskies pick up win against Bradley

11/3/2017 – DeKalb, IL | The DIII Huskies hosted the Bradley University Braves on October 27 and 28 at Leafs Ice Centre in West Dundee, IL and the two teams split the series.

The Huskies dropped Friday night’s game by a score of 5-1, despite getting a goal from sophomore forward Nick Campbell, which was his first of the season.

Sophomore goaltender Carl Lindgren made 45 saves on 50 shots in the contest. Bradley outshot NIU by a 50-35 margin. The Braves scored on their lone power play while the Huskies failed to convert on their lone man advantage.

The Huskies dominated the scoreboard on Saturday night. Senior forward Danny Behles opened the scoring in the first period with two consecutive goals, his third and fourth tallies on the year. The Braves cut the lead in half during the frame, but senior forward Trevor Bondarowicz restored the Huskies’ two goal lead with his second goal of the season.

Behles completed his hat trick at the 10:27 mark of the second period with a power play marker that put the Huskies up by a 4-1 margin. Bondarowicz added his second goal of the night and third of the year just over two minutes later with another NIU power play goal.

Junior forward Thomas Knetl netted an additional goal on the man advantage at 16:06 of the frame; it was his fifth of the season. Senior forward Brian Kostecka put the Huskies up 7-1 with his third goal on the 2017-18 campaign during the last minute of the sandwich stanza.

Knetl completed his hat trick before the halfway point of the third period with his sixth and seventh markers on the year to give the Huskies a 9-1 lead.

The Braves added two goals during the remainder of regulation, including a power play marker, but the Huskies were able to hang on and take a 9-3 victory over Bradley.

The DIII Huskies are now 2-10-0-0 on the 2017-18 campaign. Freshman goaltender Ethan Koncor made 22 saves on 25 shots in the contest. NIU outshot Bradley by a 31-25 margin. The Braves went 1-for-10 on the power play while the Huskies went 3-for-12 on the man advantage.

The Huskies won’t return to action until the Robert Morris University Showcase starting on November 10. At 3:30 p.m. on the 10th, NIU will take on RMU-White to kick off the tournament. At 3:00 p.m. on November 11, the Huskies will battle against Missouri State University. At 12:10 p.m. on November 12, the Huskies will face-off against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville for the third time this season. The RMU Showcase will be held at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, IL.
