11/1/18 — DeKalb, IL | The DIII Huskies hosted Washington University for two MACHA Conference games on October 26 and 27 at Leafs Ice Centre in West Dundee.
Washington University dominated the weekend on the scoreboard and started doing so early on Friday night. At 5:33 of the first period, the visitors took a 1-0 lead with a power play goal. They then added two goals in the second period, including a shorthanded goal, to take a 3-0 lead into the third period.
The visitors scored three times in the third period to extend their lead to 6-0, but junior defenseman Matthew Nge tallied his first goal of the season to break Washington’s shutout bid with 1.1 seconds remaining in regulation to make the final score 6-1.
Sophomore goaltender Ethan Koncor made 69 saves on 75 shots in the contest. Washington outshot NIU by a 75-14 margin. The Huskies went 0-2 on the power play while Washington went 2-8 on the man advantage.
On Saturday, Washington defeated the Huskies by a score of 11-0. Junior goaltender Josh Stoos made 54 saves on 62 shots in 52:50 of ice time in the contest while junior goaltender Mike Trybula made 8 saves on 11 shots in 7:10 of ice time in the game. Washington outshot NIU by a 73-11 margin. The Huskies went 0-3 on the power play while Washington went 3-8 on the man advantage. The DIII Huskies are now 2-8-0-0 on the 2018-2019 campaign.
The next time the Huskies take the ice, they’ll be on the road again. At 9:30 p.m. on November 2 and at 7:15 p.m. on November 3, the Huskies and the Bradley University Braves will face-off in two MACHA Conference games at Owens Center in Peoria, IL.
