10/25/18 — DeKalb, IL | The DIII Huskies were on the road on October 19 and 20 as they took on the Northwestern University Wildcats for two games at Robert Crown Ice Arena in Evanston.
The Wildcats scored 35 seconds into Friday’s contest to take an early lead over the Huskies, but junior defenseman Matthew Nge tied the game late in the opening frame with his first goal of the season.
Despite the Huskies having some momentum going into the second period, the Wildcats came out swinging in the middle frame. The home squad scored four goals in the second period and four goals in the third period to take a 9-1 victory over NIU. Both teams went 0-2 on the power play in the contest.
Saturday’s first period was a scoreless affair, but NIU was the team to draw the first blood in the contest. One minute into the middle frame, freshman forward Elijah David tallied his third goal on the 2018-2019 campaign to give NIU a 1-0 lead.
Unfortunately for the Huskies, the Wildcats tied the game up at 4:29 and then scored three more times, including two power play goals, before the sandwich stanza ended. Northwestern added one more goal in the third period to take a 5-1 victory over the Huskies. NIU went 0-4 on the power play in the contest while Northwestern went 2-4 on the man advantage.
The DIII Huskies now have a record of 2-6-0-0 on the 2018-2019 season.
The next time the Huskies take the ice, they’ll be in the friendly confines of their home rink. At 10 p.m. on October 26 and at 7 p.m. on October 27, NIU will host Washington University in two MACHA Conference games at Leafs Ice Centre in West Dundee.
