DIII Huskies fall to Nebraska

11/10/16 – DeKalb, IL | The DIII Huskies traveled to Nebraska to take on the University of Nebraska on November 4 and 5, but came home empty-handed as the Huskers won both games.
During Friday’s contest, Nebraska scored the first 13 goals of the game; nine were tallied in the first period and four were scored in the beginning of the second period.
Senior forward Ryan Long scored at 8:10 of the middle frame to break the Huskers’ bid at a shutout. But the Huskers added another goal before the period ended.
Junior forward Trevor Bondarowicz scored at 7:24 of the third period, but the Huskers tallied again before the game was over to take the victory by a score of 15-2.
Junior goaltender Jake Tower made 50 saves on 61 shots in 57:14 of ice time; freshman goaltender Mike Trybula made 8 saves on 12 shots on goal in 2:46 of ice time. Nebraska outshot NIU by a 73-13 margin.
Saturday’s game was dominated by the Huskers as Nebraska defeated the Huskies by a score of 9-0. Tower made 43 saves on 52 shots in the contest. Nebraska outshot NIU by a 52-18 margin.
The DIII Huskies will look to rebound in the Robert Morris University Showcase this weekend. At 6 p.m. on November 11, the Huskies will take on Northwestern University at The Edge Ice Arena on John St. in Bensenville.
The Huskies will then face-off against University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 10:30 a.m. on November 12 at The Edge Ice Arena. To wrap up the weekend, NIU will play RMU Black at 2:30 p.m. on November 13 at the Edge on John St.
