10/2/17 – DeKalb, IL | The DIII Huskies traveled to Lincoln, NE on September 29 and 30 to take on the University of Nebraska Huskers for two games.
The Huskers dominated Friday night’s game as they defeated the Huskies by a score of 14-0. Sophomore goaltender Carl Lindgren made 22 saves on 25 shots in 20 minutes of play. Freshman goaltender Ethan Koncor made 6 saves on 11 shots in 5:24 of play. Sophomore goaltender Josh Stoos made 27 saves on 33 shots in 34:36 of play.
Nebraska outshot NIU by a 69-12 margin. The Huskers didn’t score on their lone power play while the Huskies went 0-2 on the man advantage.
Saturday afternoon didn’t fair much better for NIU as the Huskers scored four goals in the first period and two goals in the second period; two of those were shorthanded markers.
Sophomore defenseman Eric Odolski scored his first goal of the season with 39 seconds remaining in the middle frame to cut NIU’s deficit to 6-1. But the Huskers stormed back in the third period and scored four unanswered goals to take a 10-1 victory of the Huskies and to sweep the weekend.
Lindgren made 18 saves on 22 shots during 20 minutes of play. Koncor made 24 saves on 26 shots during 20 minutes of play. Stoos made 20 saves on 24 shots during 20 minutes of play.
Nebraska outshot NIU by a 72-15 margin. The Huskies were never shorthanded during the contest, but they also didn’t score on their four power play opportunities. The DIII Huskies now have a 1-5-0-0 record on the 2017-18 campaign.
The Huskies are off this weekend, but the next time they step on the ice, they’ll be at home for the first time in 2017-18. The Huskies will take on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville at 10:00 p.m. on October 13 and at 8:10 p.m. on October 14 at Leafs Ice Centre in West Dundee, IL.
