9/18/2018 — DeKalb, IL | The DIII Huskies began the 2018-2019 season with two road games against Loyola University on September 14 and 15 at Robert Crown Ice Arena in Evanston. Unfortunately for the Huskies, they dropped both games to the Ramblers on the weekend.
The Ramblers picked up the first five goals of Friday’s contest. Four of those came in the first period, with the fourth being a shorthanded marker. The Ramblers took a 5-0 lead into the first 4:26 of the second period, but senior forward Thomas Knetl got the Huskies on the board with an assist from junior forward Bryce Meyers.
The Ramblers answered back just past the 11 minute mark and with a power play goal with 2:24 left in the frame to take a 7-1 lead into the second intermission. Loyola then added two more tallies in the third period to defeat the Huskies by a score of 9-1. The Ramblers went 1-4 on the power play in the contest while the Huskies went 0-2 on the man advantage.
The Huskies drew first blood on the scoreboard during Saturday’s contest as Meyers gave NIU a 1-0 lead at the halfway point of the first period; junior defenseman Matthew Nge picked up the lone helper on the marker.
Two minutes later, the Ramblers tied the game with a power play goal. Loyola went on to score six more times in the second period and one time in the third period to take an 8-1 victory over the Huskies. The Ramblers power play went 3-7 on the night while the Huskies weren’t able to convert on six man advantages.
The next time the DIII Huskies take the ice in game action will be in two weeks. At 10:45 p.m. on September 28 and at 9:30 p.m. on September 29, the Huskies will travel down to the southern portion of the state to take on Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in two MACHA Conference games at East Alton Ice Arena in East Alton, IL.
