DII Huskies swept by Missouri State

10/13/16 – DeKalb, IL | The DII Huskies traveled down to Missouri for two games against Missouri State University’s DI team on October 7 and 8.

Missouri State scored early and often on Friday night as the Ice Bears defeated NIU by a score of 9-2.

Senior forward Tyler Hilton netted a power play marker in the second period of the contest. The tally was his second goal on the 2016-17 campaign. Junior forward Patrick Wrobel was credited with the lone assist on the goal.

Junior forward Mike Wojtkiewicz also tallied while on a power play in the second period. His unassisted marker was his third goal of the season.

Junior goaltender Jake Leon started the contest and made 30 saves on 36 shots before being relieved in the third period by junior goaltender Nick Bove. Bove made 12 saves on 15 shots in his time in net.

Missouri State outshot the Huskies by a margin of 51-16. The Huskies went 2-8 on the power play and the Ice Bears tallied on three of their seven man advantages.

The Ice Bears shutout the Huskies on Saturday evening by a score of 4-0.

The first period was a scoreless affair with the Ice Bears outshooting the Huskies by a margin of 20-9. The scoreless tie was broken in the second period as Missouri State netted a power play goal. The Ice Bears then went on to score three times in the final frame.

Bove made 45 saves on 49 shots in the contest while Missouri State outshot NIU by a margin of 49-26.

The DII Huskies have a weekend off before getting back on the ice for game action.

NIU will travel to the University of Iowa for two MACHA conference games. The two teams will face-off at 7 p.m. on October 21 and at 5 p.m. on October 22 at Coral Ridge Ice Arena in Coralville, IA.
