DII Huskies Sweep Mizzou

12/5/18 — DeKalb, IL | The DII Huskies traveled to Missouri on November 30 and December 1 to take on the University of Missouri Tigers for two MACHA Conference games. The Huskies swept the weekend courtesy of posting 27 goals in two contests.

Senior forward Nick Treiber posted 14 points (5 G, 9 A) on the weekend while junior forward Brad Krauser tallied nine points (2 G, 7 A) and senior forward Eric Svejda (4 G, 4 A) and freshman forward Brandon Ledyard (3 G, 5 A) posted eight points in two games.

Mizzou tallied the first goal during Friday’s contest, but the Huskies answered back with 13 consecutive goals to take a 13-1 victory over the Tigers. Senior forward David Madrigal led the Huskies with 6 points on the night (4 G, 2 A).

Svejda and Ledyard tallied twice in the contest while the Huskies also picked up goals from Krauser, Treiber, senior defenseman Jordan Niedziela, sophomore forward Mason McCoy and freshman forward Tyler Gut.

Freshman goaltender Chad Dodero made 30 saves on 31 shots in the contest. NIU outshot Mizzou by a 49-31 margin. The Huskies scored on their lone power play and killed off all four of the Tigers’ man advantages.

The Huskies scored early and often during Saturday’s contest as they went on to defeat the Tigers by a score of 14-5. Treiber recorded nine points (4 G, 5 A) in the contest while Svejda and McCoy picked up two goals each. Krauser, Gut, Ledyard, senior forward Holden Carkner, senior defenseman Tommy Rhyan and freshman forward Justin Garr all picked up a goal in the game.

Graduate goaltender Stephen Thulin made 30 saves on 35 shots in the contest. NIU outshot Mizzou by a 50-35 margin. The Huskies went 2-5 on the power play and killed off all three of the Tigers’ man advantages. NIU is now 8-10-0-0 on the 2018-2019 campaign.

The Huskies will play in two more MACHA Conference games this weekend as they host the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Cougars. On December 7 at 7:20 p.m. and on December 8 at 4:20 p.m., the Huskies and the Cougars will face-off at Leafs Ice Centre in West Dundee, IL.
