DII Huskies Drop Game to Indiana

By Kim Wrona

1/16/19 — DeKalb, IL | On January 11, the DII Huskies traveled to Frank Southern Ice Arena in Bloomington, IN to take on Indiana University. The weekend was supposed to feature two games between the teams, but Saturday’s game was canceled due to inclement weather.

Indiana got out to a two-goal lead in the first period of Friday’s contest, which included a power play goal, and wouldn’t look back from there. The home squad added two more tallies in the second period to extend its lead to 4-0.

At 1:48 of the third period, senior forward David Madrigal netted his 20th goal on the 2018-2019 campaign to get the Huskies on the board. Junior forward Brad Krauser picked up the lone assist on the tally.

Unfortunately for the Huskies, Madrigal’s goal wasn’t enough to ignite a comeback and they dropped the game by a score of 4-1.

Graduate goaltender Stephen Thulin made 44 saves on 48 shots in the contest. Indiana outshot NIU by a 48-39 margin. The Huskies went 0-7 on the power play and killed off one of Indiana’s two power play opportunities.

The DII Huskies now have a record of 9-14-0-0 on the 2018-2019 season.

The Huskies will be at home the next time they take the ice. NIU will host Minnesota State University-Mankato at 7:20 p.m. on January 18 and at 4:20 p.m. on January 19 at Leafs Ice Centre in West Dundee, IL.
