DII Huskies Drop Final Games Against SLU

2/8/18 – DeKalb, IL | The DII Huskies traveled to Webster Groves, MO to take on Saint Louis University on February 2 and 3 for the last two regular season games of the 2017-2018 season. Unfortunately for the visitors, they were swept by their MACHA Conference rival.

Friday’s contest featured the Billikens getting on the board early in the first period, but the Huskies answered back with a power play marker. Sophomore forward Brad Krauser tied the game up with his 21st goal of the season at 11:52. With less than five minutes to go in the period, the Billikens regained their one-goal lead.

Krauser tied the game up at two with another power play goal for his 22nd tally on the year at 1:38 of the second period. Less than five minutes later, the Billikens went back up by a score of 3-2 and the home team wouldn’t look back. They scored two more times in the middle frame and three times in the third period to take an 8-2 victory over the Huskies.

Senior goaltender JoJo Durrbeck started the game and made 34 saves on 36 shots in 21:44 of ice time. Senior goaltender Nick Bove made 36 saves on 42 shots in 38:16 of ice time. SLU outshot NIU by a 78-23 margin.
Saturday’s game was dominated on the scoreboard by the Billikens. The home squad took a 2-0 lead into the third period and scored three more times in the final frame to defeat the Huskies by a score of 5-0 for the sweep of the weekend.

Durrbeck made 21 saves on 22 shots in 26:44 of ice time. Bove made 37 saves on 41 shots in 33:16 of ice time. SLU outshot NIU by a 63-22 margin. The Huskies went 0-for-2 on the power play and killed off all four of the Billikens’ man advantages.

The DII Huskies finished the 2017-2018 campaign with a record of 10-24-1-0.
