1/26/2020 Dekalb, IL – The D3 Huskies were on home ice for the first time in 2020. The Huskies swept the weekend with scores of 6-3 on Friday and 9-6 on Saturday against Aurora University.
Eight minutes in on Friday, Kyle Meehan found the back of the net to start off the game. Less than two later, Justin Garr netted the second allowing Huskies to be up 2-0. Ending the first period the score was 3-1 after John Williams pulled the Huskies ahead. In the second period, Elijah David and Williams scored to get the score 5-3 and in the third period David netted his second goal with NIU finishing on top 6-3.
Goaltender Ethan Koncor was in net saving 35 of 38 shots on goal.
Saturday the Huskies kept the score tied at the start. Aurora University started it off 30 seconds in and NIU answered back with the first goal from Justin Garr. Seconds later Aurora lead 2-1 and Ben Carney tied it again. Heading into the second period NIU was ahead 4-2 with goals by Zander Meisner and Brett Buttice. Cody Radman found the back of the net less than five minutes into the period for a score 5-2. Aaron Harris was able to get the next two goals to end the second period 7-4. In the third period, Buttice and Zach Sockol kept the Huskies up and energized for a final score of 9-6.
Goaltender Matthew Copplillo was in net saving 28 of 34 shots on goal.
The Huskies will return to home ice to close out the regular season January 31 and February 1 at 7:20pm and 7:30pm respectfully as NIU will take on Wheaton College at Canlan Ice Sports West Dundee.
