10/17/2021 The DIII Huskies traveled in Indiana this past weekend to take on Purdue Univerisity. Friday the Huskies fell 3-8 and Saturday picked up their second win of the season with a score of 6-3.
Friday the Huskies had a few players out due to injuries. The Huskies were able to score a goal 3 minutes into the first period. Mason McCoy was able to tie the game 1-1. Minutes later, David Kraaz scored for the Huskies bring the score to 2-2. The Huskies’ final goal of the game was scored by Noah Carlock at 13.39 in the third period making the final score 3-8.
Saturday the Huskies came back for a win and started off the game. Huskies, Justin Garr scored the game’s first goal at 6:20 in the first period. Garr scored another goal minutes later and made the score 2-0. Ending the first period, McCoy scored his second goal of the weekend and the Huskies end the first period with a score of 3-0. The Huskies did not score again until the third period. In the last four minutes of the game, Carlock, Jason Kliment, and Shane Tennell scored the Huskies’ goals within seconds of each other for a final score of 6-3.
Assistant Coach Koedding stated “The team showed a lot of resilience coming back and winning Saturday after the tough loss Friday night. All around they had great efforts from the offensive and defensive side of the puck with great goaltending to back the team.”
Goaltender Matthew Coppolillo started off Friday’s game playing 20 minutes of the game-saving 11 of 18 shots on goal. Matthew Capek then played the remaining 40 minutes of the game-saving 32 of 33 shots on goal. Saturday, Matthew Capek played saving 44 of 47 shots on goals.
The DIII Huskies season is now 2-6-1. The Huskies will be back on the road on October 22nd and 23rd to take on Bradley University at Owens Center in Peoria, IL. Game times are 6:30 pm and 5 pm.
