2/14/2022 Dekalb, IL The DIII Huskies finished their season with a record of 8 wins, 19 losses, 1 loss in overtime (8-19-1). For the spring semester, the Huskies battled multiple problems with players’ injuries and COVID protocols changing.
Forward Jason Kliment is the point leader of the team. He has a total of 45 points with 20 goals and 25 assists. Jason is also the assist point leader. David Kraaz is goal point leader of the team with 23 goals. Forward Noah Carlock follows very closely with 39 points, 18 goals and 21 assists.
The Huskies took on the University of Missouri (Mizzou) on January 21st and 22nd. The Huskies lost both nights. Friday the 21st Max Ruttenburg scored the Huskies goal. Matthew Capek was in goal and they ended with a final score of 1-5. Saturday the 22nd the Huskies fell 2-5. Goals were scored by Jason Kliment and Justin Garr. Goaltender Matthew Capek was in the net for the first 40 minutes. Matthew Coppolillo was in the net for the remaining 20 minutes.
The following weekend, the Huskies took on Illinois State University for their final home game of the season and as a DIII team. Friday, January 28th the Huskies fell 2-9 with goals scored by David Kraaz and Justin Garr. Goaltender Matthew Capek was in the net for 40 minutes of the game followed by Matthew Coppolillo for the remaining 20 minutes. Saturday, January 29th the Huskies took a hard loss. Aaron Harris scored the only goal for the Huskies as they fell 1-9. Matthew Coppolillo was in the net for the entire game.
February 4th and 5th the Huskies traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to take on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Friday the 4th, the Huskies dropped their game 2-9 against UW Milwaukee. David Kraaz and Justin Garr scored the goals of the night and Matthew Coppolillo was in the net. Saturday the 5th, the Huskies played their final regular-season game and fell 2-11. Justin Garr and Noah Carlock scored the goals of the night. Matthew Coppolillo was in the net for 57 minutes and Collin Henkemeyer played the remaining three minutes.
Huskies advanced to the MACHA Playoffs and took on Illinois State University. The Huskies traveled to Maryville University Hockey Ice Center in Missouri. Friday, February 11 the Huskies fell in playoffs 1-9. Noah Carlock scored the goal for the Huskies and Matthew Capek was in the net as a goaltender.
For the 2022-2023 season, the DIII team will be moving to DII Huskies. The team will be a part of the NCHL with 5 other teams, Northern Michigan University, Purdue University- Northwest, Roosevelt University, St Norbert College, and the University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh. Schedule and season information will be posted closer to the beginning of the season.
