D3 Finishes Runner Up in MACHA Championship Game

2/16/2020 DeKalb, IL – The D3 Huskies headed to Springfield, Illinois for MACHA Playoffs. Friday February 14, they played Bradley University, winning 4-3. Saturday February 15, for the Bronze Championship game, they played Marquette University and fell 8-6.

Friday, the Huskies were first to find the back of the net against Bradley University. Mason McCoy scored the Huskies goal about 7 minutes in and pulled the Huskies ahead. Minutes later Senior Cory Packard scored the Huskies second goal and they ended the period 2-1. In the second period, Cody Radman reached the net and the Huskies ended the second period 3-1. Heading into third on top, the Huskies continued their fight and Matthew Nge scored a goal for the Huskies final score to be 4-3. Goaltender Ethan Koncor was in net for the game.

Saturday, less than four minutes into the game, Cody Radman scored the Huskies first goal and Bryce Meyers answered again seconds later to pull the Huskies ahead 2-0. Marquette then tied the game but before ending the first period, Zach Sockol got the Huskies on top 3-2. Coming back for second period Matthew Nge found the back of the net for the second time on the weekend and minutes later Brett Buttice pulled the Huskies ahead 5-2. Ending the second period, the score was 5-4. In third period Justin Garr was able to get the Huskies up by two but it was not enough. Fighting defensively, they fell 6-8 against Marquette. The Huskies fought many penalties and only had a few power plays themselves. Goaltender Ethan Koncor was in net for the game.

Coach Weems is very proud of how far D3 has come this season. He mentioned the team has very good potential to compete regionally next year. While he is going to miss the seniors, he is excited to see where the team goes next year.

Coach Luciana recapped that the team battled hard this season. They overcame many injuries, losing players and still continued to improve each week.

The D3 Huskies ended the season with a record of 12-13-1.
