1/21/2013 – Dekalb, IL – The D2 Huskies needed a big weekend in Jefferson City and that is exactly what they by defeating the University of Missouri Tigers 5-1 on Saturday and 9-4 on Sunday.
Saturday started off with a bang as Brandyn Maher scored his first goal of the season early on in the first period, with help from Justin Rucinski. Mike Hansen scored his team leading 17th goal of the season later on the in period on a nifty feed from Troy Hickey and Rucinski. Mizzou struck back before the period was out when Drew Davenport scored at the 17:53 mark to make it 2-1 Huskies going into the first intermission.
The Huskies undeterred by the late goal extended their lead early in the second period when Nick Remley scored with help from whom else, Justin Rucinski. Nick Leon made it 4-1 midway through the third period and Mark Greenberg tying Mike Hansen for the team lead iced it at the 15:35 of the third for a 5-1 Huskie victory.
Sunday would begin much like the previous day with an up-tempo, high scoring first period which featured both team scoring goals and 2-2 tie with goals coming from Nick Leon and Justin Rucinski. The second period saw a five goal outburst but this Huskies were comfortably ahead 6-3 thanks to Justin Rucinski and Nick Leon again, Mark Greenberg and Brett Wheeler. The Huskie kept their foot on the gas and closed out the weekend with three more goals by Greenberg, Rob Bock and the icing on the cake a hat trick goal for Justin Rucinski to cap off his 8 point weekend and a Huskie sweep of the Tigers.
