D1 Huskies Sweep Waldorf in MCH Conference Games

2/3/2020   Dekalb, IL – The D1 Huskies swept the weekend on home ice against Waldorf University. Winning Saturday, 2-1 and Sunday 5-4 in overtime.

 

Skating into the game on Saturday, the Huskies had more determination than ever and were ready to win. Seven minutes into the game, Austin Walny scored the first goal for the Huskies to lead 1-0. Before ending the first period, Waldorf tied the game and it remained tied until third period. 12 minutes into the third period Tyler Gut found the back of the net and maintained the score of 2-1 to win.

Goaltender Chad Dodero was in net saving 36 of 37 shots on goal.

 

Heading into Sunday, the Huskies felt confident they could sweep the weekend. With three minutes left in the first period, Osman Cholak netted the first goal of the game to lead 1-0. Coming back for second, Hunter Wahl found the back of the net for a Huskies lead 2-0. Waldorf answered back for a score of 2-1 and less than three minutes later Alec Porzondek pulled the Huskies ahead 3-1. After maintaining the score for a few minutes, Waldorf tied the game to end the second period 3-3. Tied into the third period, Tyler Gut netted his second goal of the weekend 12 minutes in, making the score 4-3. As the Huskies continued to battle for a win, Waldorf scored to tie in the final minutes of the game. Heading into overtime, the Huskies had a game plan and were ready to follow it through. 24 seconds into a five minute overtime playing three on three, Rodahn Evans scored the Huskies winning goal for a final score of 5-4.

Goaltender Brian Eisele was in net saving 28 of 32 shots on goal.

 

Coach Rucinski mentioned it was great to win this weekend. “The boys worked hard to get here and were able to pull off the weekend win.”

Freshman Forward Hunter Wahl commented, “It was amazing to win, the energy was awesome and we were playing as a team.” “Everyone gave it 110% when it mattered and that was our biggest strength.”

 

The D1 Huskies will be back on the road to take on McKendree University for a second time this season. This pair of MCH Conference games will be played at McKendree Metro Rec Plex Friday February 7, at 7:30pm and Saturday February 8, at 7:00pm.
