1/10/2021 Dekalb, IL. The D1 Huskies did not have to travel far for the first games of the 2022 Spring semester. The Huskies split the weekend against Roosevelt University Lakers in Bensenville, IL. The Huskies pulled a win for Friday with a score of 7-4 but fell Saturday with a loss of 2-7.

Seconds before the end of the first period, Randy Apter scored his second goal of the game which made the score at the end of the first period 4-1. Heading into the second period, the Huskies were ready for a win. Rodahn Evans was assisted by Austin Walny at 13:33 in the second period to bring the Huskies up 5-1. Minutes later the Lakers scored a goal and we answered back after Brandon Ledyard scored. Roosevelt came back for third period ready to fight but ultimately pulled their goaltender which allowed Rodahn Evans to score an empty net goal. Saturday the Huskies struggled to maintain the puck in their area. Robert Apter and Alec Porzondek were able to find the back of the net throughout the game but the Huskies still fell 2-7. Goaltender Brian Eisele was in net saving 31 of 38 shots on goal.
Head Coach Nick Madonia stated “ Friday’s game we got off to a fast start and dictated the pace and physical game. Nick Gonzalez’s line did a great job on their top players and we kept them off the scoresheet. Saturday we got away from a lot of what was working for us on Friday. Roosevelt controlled the first period, but Brian made some big saves and it all fell apart in the second.”
The Huskies current record is 3-14-2. The Huskies return to home ice January 28th and 29th to take on Illinois State University. Games times are 7:30 pm on January 28th and 4:20 pm on January 29th.
