11/10/19 Dekalb, IL – The D1 Huskies skated against McKendree University for MCH conference games. The Huskies dropped the weekend, Friday 2-18 and Saturday 4-12.
McKendree started off the game and continued to reach the back of the net. It was not until the third period when the Huskies found the back of the net. Freshman Alex Piotrowski snapped the puck to Nick Gonzalez allowing for the Huskies to make the score 1-15. With 5 minutes left in the third period Freshman Osman Cholak scored leaving the Huskies with a score of 2-18. Sophomore goaltender Chad Dodero started in net having 30 shots on goal and half way through Sophomore Brian Eisele took the net having 34 shots on goal.
Skating into Saturday the Huskies struggled to get the puck to the net. Sophomore Alec Porzondek made it down to the net and tied the score 1-1. Less than five minutes into the second period Freshman Rodahn Evans scored the Huskies second goal leaving them 2-3. Four minutes later Cholak scored his second goal of the weekend. Coming back for third period, the Huskies were down 7-3 when Evans scored his second goal of the night. The Huskies fell after a hard fight 4-12. Dodero was in net to start again with 24 shots on goal and Eisele taking over in second with 25 shots on goal.
Freshman Mason Ihrke mentioned that team had an energy change coming into Saturday’s game. They had a new game plan which helped them get off to a good start. Coach Rucinski stated that he thought the team competed better Saturday than Friday’s game and the team has a lot to learn continuing into the season.
The Huskies will be back on the road November 15th and November 16th at 7:00pm both nights playing the University of Illinois at the University of Illinois Ice Arena.
