D1 Drops Pair of Non Conference Games to Iowa State

By Morgan Haga

1/19/20 Dekalb, IL – The D1 Huskies traveled to Ames, Iowa to take on Iowa State. Unfortunately, the Huskies could not find the back of the net and fell Friday 7-0 and Saturday 6-0.

The Huskies started out the game with determination to win. NIU had some penalties called that did not help them pull ahead or help power play kills. Colin Brey stated that the Huskies struggled to get the puck out of their zone which led to Iowa having too much space and time. The final score was 7-0.

Goaltender Chad Dodero was in net most of the game saving 36 of 43 shots, then Ethan Koncor took over saving 9 of 9 shots.

Saturday night the Huskies came into the game with a more determined mindset than Friday night. Coach Rucinski commented that NIU was unable to generate the offense needed and Iowa State’s defense was solid with too much depth for the Huskies. The Huskies fell 6-0.

Goaltender Chad Dodero played again saving 42 of 48 shots, then Ethan Koncor took over last couple minutes saving 9 of 9 shots.

The Huskies are on the road playing Maryville University at Maryville University Hockey Center, January 24 and 25 at 7:30pm both nights.
