D1 Drops Pair of Games To University of Illinois

11/17/19 Dekalb, IL – The D1 Huskies dropped two non-conference games against University of Illinois. Friday the Huskies fell 4-11 and Saturday 1-11.

NIU was unable to reach the back of the net until the beginning of the second period. Skating into second period, Austin Walny found the back of the net within three minutes after fighting to make it 1-3. The Huskies skated into third period with a score of 1-6. Continuing into third Noah Carlock gave the Huskies another goal on the board 15 minutes into the period. Rodahn Evans and Hunter Wahl were also able to find the back of the net before the buzzer leaving the Huskies 4-11. Sophomore Brian Eisele was in net taking on 95 shots.

Moving into Saturday, the Huskies struggled to move the puck to their end. Freshman Nick Lata scored the Huskies only goal of the night. Lata stated, “The Huskies need to work as a team to play as one.” He also mentioned that penalties were happening between breaks rather than in the play which affected efficient power play. The Huskies fell 1-11. Sophomore Chad Dodero was in net taking on 75 shots.

The Huskies will continue their road trip traveling to Bloomington, Illinois to take on Illinois State University at Grossinger Motor Arena. Friday November 22 and Saturday November 23 games with both games beginning at 7:00pm.
