5/9/2018 – DeKalb, IL | Defenseman Ben Carney has committed to Northern Illinois University for the fall of 2018 and to NIU Hockey for the 2018-2019 season.

Carney previously played for Lakers High School and chose to attend NIU for a couple reasons.

“A bunch of Lakers have signed here,” the 17-year-old said. “And it’s a good school for business.”

The 5’10”, 170 lbs. defenseman is a physical player who models his game after Chicago Blackhawks defensemen Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook.

The business major has only been playing hockey for two years, so he’s consistently trying to broaden and strengthen his skills on the ice.

The Grayslake, IL native hopes to make the Huskies a better team in his first season with the organization.
