Alfano (Lake In The Hills, Ill./ Leafs Midget Major) was named to the 24-player squad that represented the Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA) in the challenge. The MACHA was one of eight affiliated conference, along with two independent groupings, that played in the round-robin event. Alfano, in his 3rd season with the Huskies this season, led NIU in points with 43. He netted 17 goals and a team leading 26 assists in 37 regular season games.
NIU Hockey President, Ian Kalanges, was also selected to the squad as an Assistant GM.
The MACHA Mid-America All-Star squad finished the ACHA All-Star Challenge with a very respectable 3-2 record against the top all-star teams in Men’s Division 2. The team won both games on Friday, 5-4 over the MACHA Atlantic team and 8-5 over the NECHA team. Saturday saw the MACHA come up short against the overall challenge champion GMHL team by an 8-4 margin and to the EAST All-Stars team 5-3 in the night game. Sunday morning the MACHA bounced back with a thrilling 8-6 win over the ACCHL team to finish up 5th overall in the tournament.
Alfano finished the weekend with 1 goal and 3 assists while playing in all 5 games.
