9/29/19 Dekalb, IL The D3 Huskies traveled to Evanston Illinois to play Northwestern University for the first set of away games on the season. The Huskies lost Friday’s game 4-1 and Saturday’s game 5-1.
The Huskies put up a tough fight against Northwestern University. The goal Friday night was scored by Freshman Kyle Meehan. This was Kyle’s first goal of the season. In Saturday’s game Sophomore Elijah David netted his second goal of the season. In the end, Northwestern battled to win both games. Senior Goaltender Josh Stoos was in net both nights.
Friday night Meehan’s line was battling hard in the corners. Bryce Meyers was able to pass the puck over to Meehan and Meehan put it in the back of the net. Meehan stated, “Even though we lost, I felt that we played a good game. We scored early, and could not find the net after that. Hopefully the next weekend off will allow us to get back to work”.’
Coach Weems brought up that the team needs to work on defensive coverage. “The net presence was weak all weekend. We need to find a way to get shot on goal rather than working on perfect plays. The boys need to work together to find the back of the net.”
Davidson McLean mentioned that the team is still learning each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Having a weekend off will allow us to work on the things we need to work on and practice to build more moving forward. NIU did not see many penalties throughout the game. “Friday night the powerplay did not see the ice once and Saturday was a lot of the same” McLean stated.
The Huskies will be back on home ice in two weeks as they play Southern Illinois University Edwardsville October 11th and 12th. Game times are 10:30pm and 4:20pm respectively at Canlan Ice Sport West Dundee.
