Gonzalez COMMITS TO NIU FOR 2019-2020


Northern Illinois University Hockey is excited to announce the addition of Nicolas Gonzalez to our 2019-2020 recruiting class. Gonzalez, a 6’3’’ 165 lbs. forward from Harbor City, CA, was a part of the Los Angeles Jr Kings U18 AAA team this past season where he has progressed within the LA Jr Kings AAA organization the past 3 years.

Barry Dreger, Head Coach of the LA Jr Kings U18 AAA had this to say about Gonzalez, “Nicolas is an outstanding young man who was liked by everyone: teammates, coaches, parents and he was a treat to coach. No matter what was going on, Nicolas always had a positive attitude and a smile on his face. I want to congratulate Nicolas for choosing NIU, they are very fortunate to have him. I want to wish Nicolas the best of luck.”

“I was really impressed how Nicolas plays both end of the ice,” said NIU D1 Head Coach Mike Rucinski. “He will be a great addition to the Huskies.”

“I chose NIU as it gives me an opportunity to get my degree in Kinesiology while allowing me to play at a competitive level of hockey” said Gonzalez.
